Reflection
Men can waste years searching for a grand purpose while neglecting the ordinary duties already bearing their name. We imagine calling as something dramatic — a platform, a mission, a moment when everything suddenly makes sense. Meanwhile there is a wife to love, a child to teach, a body to discipline, a craft to sharpen, a neighbor to serve. We keep asking God for the map while ignoring the ground beneath our feet.
Purpose is often revealed through faithfulness before it is revealed through clarity. David learned to protect sheep before he protected a kingdom. Joseph served faithfully in places that looked nothing like the future he had dreamed. The hidden years were not interruptions. They were preparation.
Do not despise today’s assignment because it feels smaller than tomorrow’s ambition. Do it so well that you become capable of carrying more. Sweep the floor as if God sees the corners. Answer the phone with patience. Keep the promise no one would know you broke. The man searching desperately for his purpose may discover that purpose has been training him quietly all along.
