Day 003

She Should Not Compete With Your Ambition

marriage

"A wife should not have to compete with her husband's ambition; she should be the reason his ambition remains humane."

Reflection

A driven man is a good thing. A driven man whose wife feels like an obstacle is a tragedy dressed as success. Somewhere along the way, the mission became the mistress. The calendar filled with everything except her. She learned to stop asking. He learned to stop noticing.

Ambition is not the enemy. Neglect is. A man was not given a wife so he could schedule around her; he was given a wife so he could build with her. When she is at your side, your ambition has a conscience. It gets quieter about applause and louder about legacy. It stops asking, "How high can I climb?" and starts asking, "Who will I still be at the top?"

Look at your week honestly. Where is she in it? Not in the leftovers — in the design. Does she know she is chosen daily, not only married once? Does she see it in your eyes, your calendar, your attention? A man's ambition should make his home stronger, not lonelier. If your work is drying up the woman you promised to water, the work is not succeeding. Reorder the day. Reorder your face when she walks in. She is not competition. She is covenant.

Wisdom

"Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her." — Ephesians 5:25

Journal

If my wife described how she feels inside my ambition, what would she say — and would I want to hear it?

Today's Practice

Before any other work today, do one thing that tells your wife she is chosen: a real conversation, an unhurried touch, a note, an act she did not have to ask for.

Closing Principle

Do not build a life she has to survive.
